Florence vs. Rome

I found Florence to be more upscale than Rome.  While Rome is the “mecca” for all that is ancient in Italy, Florence is refined and more understated.  It’s less crowded and there are less street sellers in your face.   It seemed around every corner in Rome, someone would be hassling you to buy something: a keychain, perhaps a scarf, a fake Louis – the bags were insults to the designers.  I found pleasure every time the “polizia” pulled up and the street sellers scrambled to pick up their knock-offs while scattering away like mice.
